Arun River Valley, Nepal

One of the primary goals for my last trek was to find more of the color green to put into the Mountainscapes. Spring and an early monsoon gave this opportunity from the village of Tashigaun, which lies on the way to Makalu Basecamp.

The green of this village oasis took on added significance the farther we left it behind - for it is the last place from here on up where fresh vegetables can be easily obtained. It was wonderful to return here after a couple of weeks up high and gorge ourselves on sauteed baby ferns procured from the jungle by our remarkable Sherpa hosts.
